Dr. Carol Twyman
Carol S. Twyman, MD is a licensed physician, board certified in internal medicine, emergency medicine, and anti-aging and restorative medicine. She has over 25 years of experience caring for the people of North Louisiana. Growing up in West Monroe, Louisiana, she graduated with honors from Northeast Louisiana University (now University of Louisiana, Monroe). She completed medical school at Louisiana State University School of Medicine in Shreveport, LA, and went on to complete a residency in internal medicine in Lafayette, LA.
After finishing her education, she moved to Minden, LA and opened an internal medicine practice. The birth of her first child brought new challenges to her busy schedule. She closed her practice and began a career in emergency medicine, becoming board certified in it as well. Over the years, Dr. Twyman has worked in many different emergency settings, from small towns like Springhill and Abbeville to serving as faculty for the Department of Emergency Medicine at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport. During these years she developed teaching skills she still uses today, both in her clinic with patients and students, and through formal courses, such as Advanced Trauma Life Support.
Carol, her husband, Richard, and their five children have always enjoyed being outdoors. In the summer of 2007, she took their activity to a new level by becoming a triathlete. This venture into endurance athletics brought about new physical challenges and changes as Carol entered midlife. Hormonal fluctuations developed and increased. As her energy level sank, and sleep disturbances became regular, she began to research hormone replacement on her own. Finding conventional hormone replacement therapy inadequate, she sought the help of a compounding pharmacist and bio-identical hormones. Discovering a whole new world of therapy, she immersed herself in its research by reading and studying anything related to hormonal disorders. She attended national conferences, seminars and webinars, and spoke to the experts in the field, becoming board certified in anti-aging and regenerative medicine.
With a new view of medicine, Dr. Twyman began to recognize the results of hormonal disorders in many of her patients in the emergency rooms she worked. The more she read, the more disorders she saw. She began to understand the devastating effects of what could be preventable disease. She felt compelled to help others find the relief she has found in integrative medicine, the union of conventional internal medicine and the best of evidence-based alternative medicine. In the fall of 2008, She began a practice, and then opened Age Less Medical Center in 2009.
Today, Dr. Carol Twyman continues her commitment to bring the best of integrative medicine to North Louisiana. Through patient care, teaching, and research, she is determined to lead others to reclaim the health and vitality they once knew.
